SUSHI MOTO

We had a pleasure to work with MMH Interior Design on Sushi Moto restaurant in Causeway Bay. Our scope included 10m long bar in Ash in main dining area, guest tables and thick U shaped bar in VIP room in Black Walnut. We have also built the ceiling in VIP room in birch plywood which was part of our CNC service.

“The VIP area brings an entirely different experience, a much more solemn atmosphere. The horseshoe-shaped bar table is the pièce de résistance of the space, carefully crafted with walnut wood. The dark, artificial stone wall is juxtaposed by the lightness in the plywood ceiling waves.

Apart from the bar table, the public area also houses a special, private booth that’s designed to feel like a little world of its own. The booth continues to stay with the wooden, oceanic overall theme: think oak wood table tops, sea blue cushion seats and cutlery. The cosy spot is perfect for intimate gatherings with a small group of friends.”

YARDLEY’S BISTRO

We entered year 2022 working for Yardley Brothers Brewery. We acted as main contractor for their new Yardley’s bistro bar in SOHO. Our scope included massive Ash wood bar and side bars, all the tables, wall and bar panelling, cabinets and signature wine barell framed taps.

“You must stop to admire the details. The furniture and bar top are bespoke, handcrafted from solid oak and ash by Hardwood HK, complete with inlaid Y joiners. The wallpaper near the entrance (which was papered with love by Luke himself) was specifically chosen as a tribute to the artist William Morris, who rejected industrialisation and mass production – just like Yardley Brothers beer. And don’t miss the gramophone, an original from Victor Talking Machine Company, at the bar.”

BASAO teahouse

Set of solid wood table tops and benches in solid Ash in interiors designed by Building Narrative.

“Our second Basao teahouse is a 1,200 sqft venue that serves single-origin teas sourced directly from farmers across Asia. Building Narrative integrates Basao’s story in the design by infusing feature tiles with soil from a Basao tea plantation. Saturated with the hue and texture of plantation soil, the atmosphere grounds the costumer in a tactile expression of Basao’s story.

Soil for the tile is sourced from a plantation in Anxi, China, a region known for oolong tea cultivation. The soil is set in cement, then pressed – a process that retains the character of the soil including traces of plants. We tested soils from three plantations and adapted a century- old manufacturing technique with the help of a Xiamen artisan to produce the custom tiles .

Fashioned by a local carpenter, wood slabs invite customers to linger at tables, window sills, and a street-side bench. In the spirit of wabi sabi, inlaid brass crosses stitch together the tables at natural weak points in the wood grain.

The atmosphere rich in natural materials aspires to offer a counterpoint to Cauaseway Bay, Hong Kong’s premier shopping district.”
